a text editor with an original graphical interface, developed at the Xerox PARC research center. Charles Simonyi, the creator of Bravo, left PARC in 1981. That same summer, Simonyi poached Brody, with whom he had worked on Bravo.
The first release of Word for MS-DOS was in late 1983. It was poorly received by the market; sales were reduced by the presence of a competing product, WordPerfect. The first version was written by Richard Brodie for IBM PCs using DOS in 1983. Later versions were released for the Apple Macintosh (1984), SCO UNIX, and Microsoft Windows (1989).
